msb gallery is pleased to present “I am here”, an exhibition by PAPER BRUT.
Based in Niigata, they create paper and objects from plants and bark found surrounding them.
They make a wide range of works, and handle all processes from cultivating raw materials to designing.
PAPER “BRUT”, which means "raw” paper in French, creates forms that take advantage of the characteristics of natural plants in homage to traditional techniques.
This exhibition showcases a group of works created using pigments extracted from plants, a new approach they have been exploring in recent years.
We hope you will feel the power of plants and enjoy a dialogue with them through their works.
About the Production Process
It begins by overlapping memories of everyday life with the time spent with the paper mulberry tree that the artists cultivate.
The works, woven like a diary, capture the transience and beauty hidden in familiar objects, quietly revealing the value of ordinary life.
Further developing into the act of extracting colors from plants, this shift represents a transition from treating the world as a subject to depict to a stage where the body is involved in the material creation process.
It progresses in conjunction with bodily movements responding to environmental changes such as light, humidity, and scent, gently synchronizing with the rhythm of nature. This reaction is of the same nature as the natural movements of insects moving toward flowers and plants reaching toward light.
These bodily responses indicate that the rhythm of the world is inscribed in the artist's bodily schema.
The paper and colors that emerge from this are traces of the moment when the world and the body intersect, and the works emerge as a space where the boundaries between the two unravel.

msb gallery is pleased to present “Un/Read -A Body Reading the Wind”, a solo exhibition by Keita Sakai.
Sakai works consistently focused on literacy-related errors and cognition.
When faced with letters or symbols, we are accustomed to "reading" them as a matter of course, and unconsciously try to find meaning in them. However, once this connection is broken, the words become patterns and detached from meaning begin to resonate with the body.
The works in this exhibition attempt to explore the bodily sensations that fluctuate on the boundary between reading and not reading.
In this era where knowledge is reduced to the mere processing of symbols, is it possible to rediscover the act of reading itself?
We would be delighted if you could experience it for yourself.
Biography
Keita Sakai
1997 Born in Tokyo
2021 MA Fine Art in Sculpture at Musashino Art University
Using the perceptual characteristics caused by dyslexia ー reading and writing difficulties ー as a starting point, he creates sculptures with the theme of “gap in recognition” related to literacy. He incorporates trivial everyday actions into his works and conducts his activities while considering the ambiguity of recognition, which means human error.

msb gallery is pleased to present “Nature - Humans”, a solo exhibition by Ryota Shiibashi.
Shiibashi creates works with a three-dimensional feel, using collage techniques to piece together photographs of his own mountain hiking trails and experiences.
Since participating in ATAMI ART GRANT 2024, he has attempted to incorporate into his work a perspective that is conscious of the intersection between traces of human life and nature.
This exhibition will feature a group of works that reconstruct fragments of the city of Yokosuka.
We hope you will enjoy experiencing Shiibashi's dynamic expression.
Yokosuka, Kanagawa.
A place where mountains and sea lie in close proximity, and which developed as a naval base after the Meiji era.
In this landscape, now scattered with vacant houses, I conducted a year-long research project in 2025.
The tension between nature and human presence.
I collect, deconstruct, and reconstruct its traces.
Yokosuka is presented here as a single object.

Ryota Shiibashi
A photographer & sculptor with a degree in Fine Arts from Bunsei University of Arts. Born in 1979 and raised in Yokohama. An invitation to scale Mount Karamatsu in the Northern Alps of Japan during his late twenties – in the company of his uncle – led to a passion for further climbing and an enduring fascination with the alpine scenery. This continues to inform his work, which has transitioned into hand-crafted delicate collage techniques since 2016. To date, his ventures further afield have included artist residencies in both Gwangju and Beijing.
